Hi all,
After a long time, I am back to blogging. I did not write for these days, not because I did not get any topic; it is because I did not feel like writing. This time, I am compelled to write this. You will understand this only if you happened to read beyond this.
I know you guys will be curious after seeing the title. So let me start right away.
It is amazing to see the first Indian winning Super Series Tournament. Anyways, how many of us (including myself) do have time to watch these games or even bothered to know even the results of these games. I am not going to complain about this because each of us has a right to watch/love any game.
On winning this tournament, Saina got 2 Lakhs (not in $) from our government. Not to mention that this money is hardly 10 percent of what each player received on winning T20 ’08. Anyway, it is waste to complain about the government, because we (as well as players) are used to this kind of treatment from the government.
If you want to know who I am going to complain, read further...
Usually, my morning Twit status will be either “Good Morning” or “Waiting for Newspaper”. I really love reading newspaper (The Hindu) in the morning because it is the best thing to do in a morning if you happened to wake up earlier than the usual. Today I came to know about the Saina’s victory, because I woke up early today. But I was not really happy after reading (read seeing) today’s newspaper.
In the front page, the newspaper carried Afridi’s photo which almost covered the entire page. The newspaper also had a passport size photo of Saina on the uppermost right corner. I believe she deserves much more than this (of course, she is beautiful too). Now that you read this, you can appreciate the title. Even then, I have to substantiate the reason of the title.
I was able to do this only after checking with “Times of India”. I will say TOI is really fair in this matter, not because they carried a photo of Saina which covered one fourth of the front-page; it is because they had a passport size photo of Pakistan team in the same page.
Every time I used to thank the person who happened to be the source of my blog. This time, I am confused whether to thank “Saina” or “The Hindu”. I am finishing my blog by thanking “TOI”.

Simple Post! Complex Issue! Perplexed me! :P...
ReplyDeleteBtw Newspapers have paper boy problem or watever it was called....hence they need news that sells to be on the frotn page in bold! Driving sales by marketing the right content :P....and Saina is a Hyderabadi....i totally agree she deserves better appaluse than this! :D...
oh ho.. Never expected Hindu to do this.. But i dont think this was a tactic to increase sales as Hindu never does such kinda thing.. Anywayz, hope they dont continue this again..!!

ReplyDeleteTerror-hit Pakistan finds solace in T-20 win.
These guys never improve or realise.
Good point raised...i was always baised towards hindu initially...but i too observed such instances recently...Btw good post...u have improved in ur writing style...kudos!!!
ReplyDeletemAAps...neNja thotuta da..Really.May be its new for U... but as sportsman (especially a non cricketer) i have seen a lot of these stuffs from Hindu. I have seen them covering 1 full page for a Bangladesh vs Zimbawe match whereas not even publishing a National Swimming meet. Whenever it comes to sports coloumn, i some how feel Hindu concentrates more on cricket than any other sports...whereas its not teh case in TOI or IE. And u have really improved on ur blogs m8...carry on the good work.
ReplyDelete@ Ambu : enna da solra.. Non cricketer ?!!??

ReplyDelete@Saisu,
ReplyDeleteWell brought out FACT.... (not a hidden-one though)
dude.. will we be complaining 'The Hindu', if it carried a pic of the Indian Cricket team had they won the tournament. Pbly not. Tournament commands such an importance. On the same line, i would say, no matter who wins the Men's doubles title in Wimbledon, be it Paes&Dlouhy or Bryan brothers, the article would be the same. Pbly, a pic of Paes with the trophy would be printed and not the main sports page. The main sprts page would carry the pic and the article about the ladies Singles, which attracts more attention than the men's doubles no matter if an indian is in the fray or not.
ReplyDeleteBottom Line : I think you were a bit too harsh in criticising The Hindu. :)
@ sri:
ReplyDeleteAs u said, this issue wouldnt have been noticed if india won the tournament. But still dont u feel, the first Indian winning a super series tournament deserves somethin more..
Hey 1240, Well said. But one thing,Think frm Hindu's point of view,if u want to survive n d market u ve to publish d interesting news as cricket is considered as religion in our country. If u take Badminton hw many people knows abt d no of tournaments conducted n a yr. Only few(that too badminton players sorry if im wrong) knows it. Even we also came to know abt d tournament only if anyone had won d match(by small size photo frm Hindu).Ofcourse i agree tht media ve to promote these games but wat to do v people r crazy. people can't b changed so media s comin people's way...After all they r also human beings right???
